Moving on to IntenseDebate. I've had IntenseDebate for a few months and while I like the reply feature, I hate all the complications that have been popping up (i.e. now it's erased all my older blogger comments...; it switches off-and-on). And it sucks using it for "comment-to-enter-this-giveaway" method. BUT it's like a Catch-21 in that if I uninstall it, all ID comments disappear. At this point, I'm just frustrated and resigned.

What are your thoughts? Have any of you been/are in this position? Does IntenseDebate encourage you to comment or is it more of a hassle?

As for ID, I don't really know too much about it to have a solid opinion...as a commenter, it doesn't bother me. That sucks that it's messing up your older comments though. I hope you get it all figured out,

As for Intense Debate, I've never had the problems you have. But sometimes it will say my session has ended or something and will get wonky if I try to sign out and back in. Very rarely some comments won't show up as well. I'm so used to ID by now though that I can't imagine using another commenting system. *le shrug*

I had that problem. Suddenly my comments would just disappear. that stopped happening later, but after I changed my template and installed it again ALL of my old comments being all from 2009 and half from 2010 just went. Still are gone and I was so freakin pissed so i totally get you. I'm going to trudge through though since all the comments are available if you go to your dashboard. It just means I'm going to have to copy and paste each and every comment painstakingly. Not gotten around to it yet, dreading it urgh. But the thing is I love the replying option way to much. I count on getting feedback and giving it back so for me intense debate despite it's shitty glitches is very helpful in that aspect, and it is helpful when you want discussions and is a great way to interact with readers overall so for me, I'm willing to take the bs, but of course it's down to you. I know it sucks *hugs*

Hmm I have had no problems with Intense Debate on my own blog or using it to comment on others thus far. (Then again, I am using it with Wordpress ... so I don't know if these problems are Blogspot/Blogger specific or not).

The only thing I dislike is if I have a password protected post, and someone comments on it, the comments are still shown on that person's Intense Debate profile (if they have one), or on the sidebar on my blog (if I have it activated). But I don't do PW-protected posts often at all, so it's a minor issue.

I do with I started with Intense Debate when i first started the blog (the blogger commenting system is ehh, but liveable) but now I'm kind of scared of the horror stories (like yours and Aly's) that I don't want to switch :P I don't know what you should do :( It sucks that it's messing up all the comments!

I don't use IntenseDebate for my own blog and I've never had any problems commenting on other blogs who use this system. I wonder why it's going all crazy for you. I really hope it settles down and doesn't give you any more headaches.
